The Earth conscious history of America’s native peoples makes hemp a natural fit for tribal development, and likewise the traditional use of plant medicine can easily translate to natural medical marijuana.

The Rincon tribal reservation will host a symposium on cannabis hemp on native lands.

The attitude of the federal government and introducing nonmedical cannabis as an alternative to alcohol on the reservations are more controversial topics.

The landslide passage of Proposition 64 that legalized nonmedical cannabis brought the issue to the forefront and the conversation is at last going to be had in California.

The Santa Ysabel Tribal Ente
prise Consulting group and theNative Network Consulting and Emerald Enterprise Inc., will co-host the Tribal Leaders Cannabis Symposium April 19 and 20, 2017, at Harrah’s Resort at the Rincon Reservation, which is situated within San Diego County.

State legalization opens new opportunities

This information-sharing symposium is a landmark opportunity for Tribal government leaders, managers and economic development representatives to discuss the evolving options, constraints and dynamics of hemp and cannabis enterprises being conducted on Tribal lands. The change in state laws and the federal administration are two key considerations regarding cannabis developments.

After the state of Nevada legalized nonmedical adult possession and use of cannabis last year, High Times magazine moved its internationally acclaimed Cannabis Cup marijuana competition onto tribal lands near Las Vegas.

The U.S. Attorney in Las Vegas warned the tribe February 16 that the “the transport, possession, use and distribution of marijuana is illegal under federal law” and the festival would violate that provision, but a scaled back version of the event was allowed to proceed.
